Summer Reading Club #12 | OMO33

For OMO33, everyday life is an endless source of inspiration. As its name suggests, “OMO” represents a sense of surprise and wonder, which runs throughout the artist’s creative themes. It’s like discovering all the little things in life that spark a sense of awe—her perceptive antennas always reach for the unexpected, the surprising moments hidden in daily life.

For the 12th session of the Summer Reading Club, we’ve invited OMO33 as a guest to share her works, which stem from her inspirations drawn from everyday life. She hopes to inspire everyone to explore how to depict life in various mediums, even through the most ordinary things.

About the Artist

OMO33

sometimes also marks her works with the name OMOSHANNN; you might be curious about the meaning behind this name. Yep! “OMO” signifies surprise and wonder, and “33” is a nickname.OMO33 graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), with a major in Graphic Design and Illustration (Communication Design & Illustration). She has a deep passion for art and is a versatile art enthusiast—exploring graphic design, illustration, photography, short videos, films, publications, and more.Today, she is a brand designer and illustrator, constantly exploring new design perspectives. She loves bright colors and clean lines. Her graduation project featured a brand called O!life, which is related to daily life. OMO33 is her personal brand, founded in 2020. It represents the sense of discovery that comes with everything fun and interesting that is connected to herself. She has also created an IP character called “OO.”

“OO” is a small figure in the artist’s everyday drawings. It is like a piece of blank dough—ageless, genderless, with a main feature being a red round nose. The quirky detail? Small pimples on its little behind. Some have speculated that it could be a snowman, a white ball, a bun, or a mischievous spirit… whatever you think, “OO” is an observer of everyone’s life, a healing companion, a second soul. It is simple, natural, and dances joyfully. The character’s first appearance was drawn in July 2018, and it was first publicly released in November 2020. The series continues to be updated with titles like: “OO Photography Project,” “OO Healing Daily Miscellaneous,” and “When I’m with Humans.”

Event Date: Saturday, August 3,2024

Time: 14:00-16:00

Selected Works:

01<OOPS! Awkward Little Things>

This is OMO33’s earliest graduation project. It records the awkward little things in life.
By revealing some of the seemingly insignificant yet interesting events that happen daily,it brings laughter and resonates with people.

02<PUR POSE: The Reason for Drinking Coffee>

The inspiration came from a vlogger’s daily video. He created a video titled “Meaningless”,which was about using various tools as stirrers to mix coffee.
OMO33 took this seemingly meaningless yet interesting topic and combined it with “daily life.”
Thus, the result was this book, which records the moments and ways people around her drink coffee.
It might be about the feeling of the day, the type of coffee,or perhaps the “story” related to that cup of coffee for each person.
