Summer Reading Club #13 | Chitangzi

The Bananafish Summer Reading Club has reached its tenth session, and last Saturday marked the final gathering of this summer.

Browsing through Chitangzi’s pop-up books feels like experiencing a child’s handmade craft—it evokes a sense of curiosity, purity, and beauty. Through her creations with vintage and nostalgic themes, we can see images of childhood filled with love and nourished by warmth.

For this session of the Summer Reading Club, we’re excited to invite pop-up book designer Chitangzi. She will bring her previous works and share with us the creative inspiration and secrets behind making hand-crafted pop-up art books.

This session will also include a workshop segment, inviting everyone to participate in creating a hand-made pop-up ZINE. Participants will learn how to cleverly combine images and pop-up structures, crafting their own interactive, fun pop-up ZINE to capture their personal summer memories.

About the Artist

Chitangzi

Chitangzi loves using pop-up books to record daily life, applying paper craft structures to her illustration work, and embedding interactive mechanisms within her creations. Currently based in Nanjing, her representative works include the pop-up picture books “Taking a Bite of Autumn” and “Yoho! Off to School!”, the pop-up greeting card “South Park”, and the pop-up book stage design for CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala “If I Were to Describe the Year”. She has held solo exhibitions at bookstores like ZZCETISTAR Bookstore, Little Plan Bookstore, and Chunfengxixi Bookstore. Her works have also been showcased at the Singularity Plan Festival, ABC Art Book Fair, and more.
