This book is the first volume in the *Tangent Essays* publishing series. Presented bilingually in Chinese and English, it brings together ten carefully edited essays on architecture by the Tangent team. Rooted in a belief in the essay as a form, contributors from diverse humanistic fields wander across architecture, literature, history, design, science, and art, attending thoughtfully to the chance encounters and affinities that arise between things. No specialist knowledge of architecture is required to read this book. Its intended readers are anyone who takes pleasure in strolling between words and images.

We take an interest in architecture and all the areas that architecture claims, has claimed, or has yet to claim to be in touch with.
