“豆本” also refers to miniature books, which are extremely small-sized books. These tiny books are designed to fit in the palm of your hand, and their dimensions typically do not exceed 3 inches (approximately 7.5 centimeters) in height.
The history of miniature books can be traced back to ancient civilizations. Initially, they were created for practical purposes, such as serving as reference materials or portable books for travelers. Over time, they evolved into fascinating objects of fascination, collectibles, and artistic expression. The content of miniature books can cover a wide range of fields and subjects, including literature, poetry, history, art, and more.
Creating miniature books is a challenging and specialized craft because the small size requires great care and precision in printing, binding, and even reading. Many artists and designers produce miniature books as a form of art and expression.
RISO printing has a distinctive handmade style, with slightly grainy ink, vibrant colors, and a textured appearance. In this workshop, I will guide you in using RISO printing and a unique folding technique, allowing you to create your own miniature book using just one sheet of paper.
This RISO miniature book, created through a special folding method, will have 25 pages of visual space. You’ll need to prepare or think about the visual content in advance, which can include illustrations, graphics, photography, or hand-drawn artwork.
